Sarah joins K-Rock 105.7 - laid off no more!

Seventy nine days.
79 days.
Se-vhen-tee nine dayz.

No matter how I say it or type it, I can't believe it. After 79 days, I am employed again. Part of me feels like I've been laid off forever. My god, what have I accomplished in 79 days? Part of me feels like Dec. 16, 2008 was just yesterday.

Today, The Radio Group – Kingston's K-Rock 105.7, Kix 93.5 and The Lake 102.7 – announced that I am joining the K-Rock Morning Krew. We'll be a threesome (isn't that the best way?) with the group led by Darryl Kornicky, along with Tony Orr and myself.

I start Thursday, March 12.

Every morning from 5:45 a.m. to 9 a.m., you can catch us chatting, laughing, playing good songs and holding fun contests. (Last week, while I was guesting on the show I baked Neil Young tickets into a pancake...)

I'm going to keep this short, because many of my friends are still looking for jobs and I'm very conscious of the fact many people are hurting, both emotionally and financially since being laid off.

We'll talk more later, I promise.

Sarah :)

Hi everyone: (oops. just posted that as my husband. try again)

Thank you to everyone who has posted a comment here or elsewhere on the site about my new gig.

Being laid-off was not fun. I'd prefer to never be pushed into the pool instead of choosing to jump ever again, however I did learn some valuable life lessons.

No. 1 is how important friends are during times like these. If you have a friend/neighbour/relative who has lost his or her job, do one little nice thing for them. Take them to lunch. Send a pizza to their house. Offer to watch their kids for two hours so they can go hand out resumes/meet with contacts. The hardest thing is being at home by yourself when you're used to being in a work environment with other people.

Thank you for all the kind words. Now the constructive criticism begins. Let me know your thoughts about the K-Rock morning show. I really want to succeed at this, so be sure to send me all the things you think may make good morning radio: A cool new weird store/restaurant in town (like the west-end butcher who sells kangaroo meat) or an amazing Kingstonian who's doing something really neat, or a class you're teaching on the history of rock music. Anything. And everything.

Thanks for all the support. It means a lot.

Now on to work!

Sarah

Hey Kim:

It's nice to "meet" you. "DK" has been so outrageously supportive. I couldn't have done this without him.

He was telling me once about a great belt you own ... :)

We should all do dinner or drinks or coffee or brunch or something the next time you're in town. It would be nice to put a face to the name.

Sarah :)

Hey Sarah,
Yes he did say to me we would have a lot in common and that you would love my 'boot' collection. I actually have a pair of 'comic strip' boots...purchased (where else)Montreal.
Getting together sounds great and is a must.
Ears will be on Thursday....
Cheers,

Kim :)
